Under Secretary Martha Kanter will give the keynote address at Kingsborough Community College's Spring Semester Convocation on Monday, Feb. 25 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Kanter will focus her remarks on the importance of civic learning and engagement while highlighting the critical role that community colleges must play in helping to achieve President Barack Obama's 2020 goal to lead the world in college completion.
Kingsborough Community College is part of the City University of New York, and offers a wide range of credit and non-credit courses in the liberal arts and career education to all students with a high school diploma or GED. Kingsborough is leading a consortium through the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training initiative, which is a competitive funding program administered jointly by the U.S. Departments of Education and Labor. Grants through this initiative help community colleges, in partnership with industry, to strengthen the transfer and completion pipeline across an entire community, state, region, or industry sector.
