U.S. Education Official to Discuss Employment of Individuals with Disabilities at National Employment Conference in Arlington, VA

Michael Yudin, acting assistant secretary for special education and rehabilitative services, will address the National Employment Conference at Marriott Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel on Wednesday, Dec. 5 in Arlington, Va. Yudin will discuss employment of individuals with disabilities as they strive to have meaningful careers, self-sufficiency and independence. Following Yudin, Delaware Gov. Jack Markell will discuss his initiative, “A Better Bottom Line: Employing People with Disabilities.”

The conference is titled “The New Economy: Rethink, Realign, Reinvent,” and will focus on collaborating with business, high growth fields, bridging research and practice, opportunities in ‘middle skills jobs’, and employment for specific populations. The conference is sponsored by the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA).

Yudin heads the Education Department's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, of which the RSA is a component. The office is committed to improving results and outcomes for people with disabilities of all ages, and provides a wide array of support to parents and individuals, school districts and states in three main areas: special education, vocational rehabilitation and research.
